Senior Human Resources Manager – Burlington, Ontario 


The Senior HR Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling and analyzing the operations of the Human Resources department to maximize its contribution to the Company’s needs and its strategic objectives. The role demands commercial acumen to enable the Human Resources department to deliver best practices and focused HR solutions that support the business, in conjunction with specialist HR function key areas of responsibility including compliance and management training and development; policy and procedure development; Human Resource planning; labour relations; recruitment and selection; and the analysis and improvement of HR metrics/KPIs. In addition to remaining current with all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations, this role requires the individual to adhere to and enforce all established Company policies and procedures.

Job Duties

  • Oversee all of the Human Resources department operations and processes providing leadership in a very hands-on capacity
  • Strategically plan for the organization's human capital needs, in concert with other managers
  • Identify job vacancies and plan for filling them
  • Develop and facilitate training and development programs for employees and managers
  • Maintain positive working relationships with the management team and their employees
  • Deliver effective on-boarding procedures for new hires
  • Advise and assist departmental managers on the interpretation and administration of policies, programs and best practices
  • Adhere to and implement best practice for legislation such as the Human Rights Act and Labour Standards Act
  • Conduct job performance evaluations and roll out performance evaluation tools
  • Recruit and select new hires based on their knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Advise managers on organizational matters such as discrimination, discipline, harassment, etc. and develop sensible solutions to monitor and enable best practice delivery
  • Conduct training needs analyses of the entire workforce to design appropriate and necessary training and development programs
  • Compile statistical reports and metrics concerning personnel-related data such as turnover, cost of vacancy, grievance resolution and absenteeism rates
  • Analyze statistical reports to identify and determine causes of personnel problems and develop recommendations for improvement in conjunction with senior management
  • Conduct exit interviews and refine processes to ensure ‘best fit’ criteria with the Company’s objectives
  • Assist in the investigation and reporting of accidents/incidents
  • Negotiate bargaining agreements and help interpret labour contracts
  • Prepare and adhere to department budget
  • Remain current with best practices, legislative changes and industry standards
  • Oversee workload of department for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the work force
  • Other duties may be assigned as required

  • CHRP designation required
  • Post-secondary diploma in Human Resources Management
  • University degree in Business Management or Labour Relations preferred
  • 5-7 years' Human Resources experience with proven management skills
  • Minimum of three years senior level experience in either a manufacturing or heavy equipment environment
  • Proven track record of successful recruitment/retention policies
  • Engaging and effective facilitator; able to present variety of topics related to Human Resources to branch management and employees at all levels
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work well under pressure, individually and as part of a team
  • Bi-lingual French and English preferred
  • Proven conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Ability to travel up to 15%, across Canada
  • This position works Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of this critical position additional working hours may be required from time to time.
