We are now looking to hire a Graphics Technician for our location in downtown Hamilton, ON. Under the direction of the Assets Manager, the Graphics Technician will research, design, and produce graphics for various branches within the organization, as well as operate various pieces of production equipment.

  • Design and create layouts and finished art for logos and other materials such as pamphlets, forms, posters, plans, certificates, signs, and reports
  • Provide recommendations to clients based on their Service Requests
  • Under the direction of the Graphics Production Clerk, schedule work to be completed, based on Service priority and workload
  • Operate computer software in relation to artistic duties and design work
  • Respond to requests and inquiries in person, by telephone, or electronic mail and/or relay calls or messages to appropriate personnel
  • Set up, operate, and provide routine maintenance for all printing related equipment (e.g. AB Dick 360 offset printing press, laminating machine, collator, paper cutters, binders, numbering machines, photocopiers, folders, staplers, drill press, etc.)
  • Process and complete Service Requests, under the direction of the Graphics Production Clerk
  • Perform other duties, as assigned, related to the major responsibilities of the job
  • Provide coverage for the Graphics Production Clerk during periods of absence and backlog
On the job training in operating print equipment will be provided.
Must Have:
  • 3 Year Community College Diploma or University Degree in a related field (e.g. Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design, Graphic/Visual Arts Degree)
  • Minimum 1 year experience in graphic design, illustrative techniques, creative layouts, art assembly, and production printing
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of all aspects of the reprographics industry, including pre-production, production, and post-production operations (i.e. taking projects from concept, through production, and delivery to final user)
  • Experience with film stripping, plate making, and offset printing would be an asset
  • Ability to clearly understand Service Requests, research the required work, produce drafts, and produce final productions with limited supervision
  • Ability to produce quality illustrations and line drawings quickly
  • Proficiency with graphics related computer programs, e.g. QuarkXpress, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Professional, InDesign, as well as Microsoft Word and Excel, on MAC computer platform
  • Accurate keyboarding skills – minimum 35 wpm
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including ability to proofread final drafts prior to production, and maintain accurate records and files of various jobs
  • Creative problem solver who can take an idea from start to finish
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Able to meet deadlines and adapt to shifting priorities
  • Quality customer service, interpersonal, and team player skills
  • Demonstrated ability to follow established procedures
  • Must have sufficient strength to meet the physical requirements of the job (i.e. lifting up to 50 lbs); such as lifting and carrying paper products (e.g. 35lbs boxes of paper)
