POSITION:                                         Utility Service Mechanic (Stormwater)

DEPARTMENT:                                  Stormwater

 

Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to perform manual duties in the repair of the storm drainage systems.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Assists in installing, maintaining, and repairing stormwater infrastructure, such as storm drains, manholes, junction boxes, etc.: performs minimal site restoration activities, such as paving, grassing, concrete, etc.

Directs traffic around the work site.

Locates lines to be repaired and utilities that must be excavated around.

Cuts holes on roads and streets using a jack hammer.

Loads, drives, and unloads crew truck to and from work sites: keeps truck organized and clean.

Cleans work site after the job is finished.

Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains trucks, tractors, pumps, carborandum saws, demo saws, pumps, tamps, rollers, jackhammers, thumpers, and other tools and equipment.

Communicates with supervisor, other CCWA employees, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Additional Functions:

This position may require on call assignments.

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of work experience that shows an ability to maintain steady employment in any field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. This position is considered Safety Sensitive.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Performance Aptitudes:

Data Utilization: Requires the ability to determine, calculate, tabulate, or summarize data/information, following a prescribed plan requiring the exercise of some judgment. Includes performing subsequent actions in relation to these computational operations.

Human Interaction: Requires the ability to exchange information for the purpose of clarifying details within well- established policies, procedures and standards.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver, and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools and/or materials requiring complex and/or rapid adjustments.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  May include counting, recording of counts, and basic measuring.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.  Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.

ADA Compliance:

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (50-100 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals.  Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude/irate customers.

PAYGRADE:                                      USM I  13H (Starts at $18.018/hourly) / USM II (Class A CDL Required) (Starts at $19.81/hourly)
