Community Engagement Officer

Full Time, Permanent, Non-Union

Salary: $52,000- $59,500

THE ORGANIZATION:

The St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH) Foundation has an important and unique fundraising role in supporting patient care needs at our hospital. The STEGH Foundation’s primary goal is to mobilize, connect, and steward our community’s giving toward investments in state-of-the-art equipment and technology that will continue to strengthen the delivery of patient care excellence. The Foundation also supports educational bursaries for front-line hospital staff as well as upgrades in STEGH’s physical facilities.

The STEGH Foundation works independently but in partnership with our Hospital. The Foundation is governed by a 12 member volunteer Board of Directors and five volunteer standing committees. Currently, six full-time staff support the work of the Foundation.

The St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital is a 179-bed facility located in the City of St. Thomas, and it serves four municipalities and three townships within the County of Elgin. It is a fully accredited hospital offering a full range of hospital services and, in 2019, achieved Accredited with Exemplary Standing status from Accreditation Canada which STEGH will hold until 2023.


Community Engagement Officer


Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Community Engagement Officer works in collaboration with the Foundation team and community partners. The incumbent is responsible for several existing donor programs, including strategic focus on the development and growth of peer-to-peer. This portfolio also includes managing the online 50/50 monthly raffle, as well as stewarding relationships with third party event hosts, community groups, service clubs, businesses and individual donors.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards a portfolio of donors, including businesses, community groups, service clubs, event hosts and individual donors.
  • Works with community partners to develop and coordinate events that raise the Foundation’s profile and increase fundraising opportunities.
  • Coordinates the online 50/50 monthly raffle draw. This includes but is not limited to: relationships with assigned vendors, responding to customer questions and concerns, social media, emails, and liaises with the LCGO regarding the raffle license, submitting reports as required.
  • Coordinates existing donor programs such as – but not limited to – In Honour and In Memory.
  • Works with the Foundation team to ensure stewardship activities are donor-centered and fulfilled in a timely manner in accordance with the donor relations matrix.
  • Oversees key cultivation and stewardship initiatives including annual donor reception, site tours, etc
  • Coordinates donor relation events in partnership with the Annual Giving Specialist
  • Participates with the Foundation team in the establishment of the annual budget.
  • Attends and participates in any standing committee meetings, as appropriate to the position.

 

What must you have?

  • Post-secondary education in Fundraising or a combination of education and work experience
  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ work experience in a related role
  • Subject matter expertise, staying on top of the latest fundraising trends and innovative practices
  • Creativity, ambition and collaboration
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Outstanding organizational, time management and customer service skills
  • The ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative
  • Able to manage multiple priorities effectively and thrive under pressure
  • Highly motivated with a positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience with working with prospects in a fundraising or sales capacity
  • Experience managing a group of volunteers
  • Adept in Microsoft office suite and with CRM database (Raisers Edge or others)
  • Demonstrates a fit with STEGH Foundation values

Hours:
37.5 hours per week, with occasional evening and weekend work when required to meet deadlines.

Immunization requirements:

  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and a written commitment to follow any future Public Health recommendations and St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital’s policies and processes related to COVID management in the workplace.
  • Provide vaccination records of proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing.
