POSITION: REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE

UNIT: 2M - SURGICAL IN-PATIENT

STATUS: FULL TIME

SALARY: $31.23 - $31.57

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The day-to-day activity of this 20 bed Surgical In-Patient Unit is ever changing! This Unit is comprised of 15 surgical beds with an additional 5 Medical Surgical bed capacity. A multi-disciplinary team approach is used to deliver quality health care to our patients.

The RPN works at their full scope of practice to provide direct care to assigned patients. The RPN practices independently when the patient’s condition is less complex such that the outcome is predictable. The RPN collaborates with the Registered Nurse in patient situations that are beyond the RPN scope of practice.


HOURS:

Must be available for all 11.25 and 7.5 hour tours applicable to the department/unit, and other tours as assigned by the hospital, 24 hour rotation, seven (7) days per week. 


SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Registered Practical Nurse, currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and able to practice at full scope
  • Preference will be given to those with at least one (1) year recent acute surgical experience within the past two (2) years
  • Current BCLS required
  • Wound care proficiency preferred
  • Medication administration inclusive of IV medication administration, with a physician’s order IV management and therapy, blood transfusions, chest auscultation, complicated dressing changes, gastro-intestinal care, airway management, continuous bladder irrigation, and excellent assessment skills
  • Ability to critically think, set priorities, and organize working in response to a busy constantly changing environment.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with multi-disciplinary team members to ensure an excellent patient care experience

  • Basic computer skills (email, Cerner, Electronic Patient Record, OneChart)
  • Excellent Performance and Attendance Record
